JOB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE POST OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
PLD is a legal resource group working in the fields of social justice and women’s rights in India. We view law as an essential resource in the struggle for social justice and consider gender equality as central to the attainment of social justice. Our belief is that social justice goals are best shaped by human rights laws which establish a framework for the realization of the rights of the disadvantaged and the marginalised. Our understanding of rights and dignity of all persons is drawn from human rights law as well as the contextual realities of disadvantaged groups.
Our programme seeks to build capacities for asserting women’s rights in social justice initiatives, in particular for community action, law reform and advocacy. PLD’s outreach programme has four broad components: a) building partnerships with community/state level/national/regional groups, lawyers and other stakeholders for programme implementation; b) strengthening capacities through training workshops, perspective development and technical assistance; c) creating knowledge through the production of resource packages, education materials and action research; and d) advocacy and monitoring at the national, regional and international arena. Our primary target groups are intermediaries who work directly with marginalized groups, as well as agencies that shape and promote public policy, such as bureaucrats, the judiciary and the police at the national level and mechanisms that review and monitor human rights within the UN system.
